meet the girls!
get to know Mara, Sorrel, Choux, and Keys, the 4 girls of the naps project, through these highly stylised stylesheets - summarising the design and personality of each of them.
these stylesheets were created with the goal of exploring each character's personality, through the way they dress, to the colours they prefer. this is where i really leaned into the dithered almost pixelated-halftone look of naps, with a limited colour palette used across the sheets to unify them together. individual identity was given through colour and background choice, with each character's key colour being paired with its complement, and distinct textures used to curate the aesthetic of each girl.

stickers
made in under a weekend each, these 'stickers' are the ground zero for the naps project. a combination of illustration, design & typography packaged in 1-bit 512x512 images, they were born from experiments with a low fidelity artstyle that could be done quickly and still presented as punchy and distinct. i started to really lean into these during my time in national service, where i was only afforded a weekend of free time to pursue my hobbies.

photocards

a collection of portraits, each depicting different characters belonging to my friends. this was more of a hybrid project, as i wanted to experiment with dither conversion. behind the pixelation of each photocard is a digital painting that was then passed through multiple stages of dithering to achieve an end product i was satisfied with. each layer had to be processed individually as a wide range of colour present would cause odd colours like grey and green to spill into colours like skintones.
backgrounds were also heavily emphasised, probably constituting a third of the workload, as i really wanted to give each character a background that was unique and complimented them.
